Nora reached into her coat pocket and felt something soft, cool, and wiggly. Out floated a tiny gray raincloud with sleepy eyes.
The little cloud followed Nora to breakfast. When Nora worried about her big school show, the cloud dripped raindrops into her cereal.
“Please don’t rain indoors,” Nora whispered. The cloud puffed bigger and darker, because it did not know what else to do with worry.
At school, Nora hid the cloud under her hat. But when the teacher called her name, a tiny thunder-rumble rolled across the classroom.
Nora took the cloud to the quiet reading corner. She breathed in slowly, then breathed out like she was cooling soup.
The cloud copied Nora’s breathing. Its raindrops slowed, its gray edges softened, and a little silver lining appeared around it.
When Nora stepped onto the stage, the cloud floated beside her like a gentle balloon. Nora smiled, and together they made a tiny rainbow.
